Targa High Country entries at near record level

TARGA High Country may be on the verge of breaking the record for the number of entries into this year’s event.

Preparing to stage the sixth edition of Targa High Country, Rick Fontyn from Fontyn Sports Media said: “Currently we have 203 teams signed up, which is just one short of our record of 204.”

Changes to the format and stage schedules for this year’s event have also been made to make it more appealing to spectators in Mansfield, and reduce the problems of movement around town when the street stage is being run.

The street stage is now from 3pm to 5pm Saturday afternoon, and will be a demonstration run rather than a timed leg, along with ‘TargaFest’ on the median strip.

Starting in Highett Street near Curia Street, the cars will set off at regular intervals down to the roundabout, right into High Street, then right again at the new roundabout and conclude in Chenery Street.

Regular competitors Brian and Linda Dermott are again competing in their 1971 Holden Torana GTR XU-1.
