DELATITE first XI has remained in first position on the WDCA Geoff Welch Cup ladder following an outstanding win over the Benalla Bushrangers last Saturday at the Lords Oval.
Resuming on 2/59, Delatite required only 15 overs to reach the target of 118 set by the Bushrangers from the previous week’s play.
The Delatite batsmen were ruthless in their quest for runs, and punished anything that was loose or short-pitched on what was an excellent batting pitch prepared by the club’s curator and president, Ken Cousins.
The young bats who starred for Delatite were James Cousins (36), Mitch Purcell (35), Joe Cousins (31) and Patrick Marks (25).
Joel Sandford made 15 not out and seems to be capably adjusting to the transition from the hard wicket at Merton to the turf competition at Delatite.
Opening batsman, Dean Shaw, who made a quickfire 20 on the first day, set the scene for what became a comfortable win for Delatite to complete their innings and declare on 8/189, leaving 38 overs remaining to try to pick up some extra bowling points.
