Fields of dreams declared unusable

“It is disappointing news but we want to be up front and open about this” - Shire CEO Alex Green

DOWN TO EARTH: The surface of the recently constructed playing fields adjacent to the secondary college have been deemed unusable and will undergo extensive renovation over the next 12 months before sporting clubs can commence use.

MANSFIELD’S new playing fields constructed on the shared vacant site below Mansfield Secondary College were last week officially declared unusable.

At a meeting with Alex Green (Mansfield Shire chief executive officer), Dan Purcell (sport and recreation) and representatives from four user groups, sporting groups were told their plans to migrate to this site will be put on hold indefinitely.

Those user groups include junior cricket, Little Athletics, soccer and hockey.

Following this meeting, Mr Green and Mr Purcell met with the Mansfield Courier to advise of this unfortunate development.

“It is disappointing news but we want to be up front and open about this and let the community know what is going on,” Mr Green said.

“The problems stem from having the wrong specifications to start with for this project which is a product of the funding available at the time,” he said.
