Netball court surface unsafe, will be replaced

TEAR UP: Tears and bubbling in the competition netball court’s surface at the Mansfield Recreation Reserve will have to be replaced and is in doubt for playing on for the start of the 2016 season.

MANSFIELD Shire Council had further bad news last week when it was announced the competition netball court at the recreation reserve has to be resurfaced.

This came on top of the news that council’s shared new playing fields at the secondary college had also been declared unusable.

The main competition netball court had been resurfaced last year as part of the reserve’s renovations – but now after recent inspections has to be completely ripped up and replaced.

The second court (or bottom court as it is referred to) may have to come into play for the start of the new netball season in March, although its surface is not ideal.

On Friday Mansfield Shire chief executive officer, Alex Green, met with Mansfield Football Netball Club representatives about the failure of the Rebound Ace court.

“Inspection of the court revealed that the surface has bubbled and pulled away from the concrete slab, apparently due to heat and or moisture,” Mr Green said.
