TWELVE members of the Mansfield Bowls Club men’s teams travelled to Barham last week with four in particular lucky to come back.

One team consisting of Les Wood (Woody), Zack Currie, Nick Vatoff and Graham Bicknell had a narrow escape from death on the return home trip.

The team first played in Kerang, with conditions hot and blustery – despite the heat, contestants remarked that the green was like bowling “on ice”.

With the sun bearing down the Mansfield players sweltered, coming away from three games totalling 45 ends.

Woody tried to lead a couple of clashes with an increasingly hot under the collar Bicknell, but overall the day was dismissed as the team turned their focus onto day two of competition.

Kerang was also scheduled for day two, and then bowling at Barham on the Wednesday with no more success in sight, with seven games for no results – the four Mansfield players were bitterly disappointed.
