Retailers’ mixed results over the holiday season

IT was a case of mixed results for local businesses for the Christmas and New Year trading period.

Some businesses reported a slower build up to Christmas with lower dollar spend, while others had positive increases over the previous year.

Outdoor Pleasure’s Rick Formica said their pre- and post-Christmas periods were very busy up until last Sunday.

He estimated their pre-Christmas trade was about the same or possibly a little better than the previous year, while Boxing Day to the New Year was very positive.

Mandy Kirley from Mansfield Hunting and Fishing said it was a great Christmas and New Year.

“We had plenty of people coming in and overall we were up on the previous year both pre- and post-Christmas,” she said.
