Local BMX rider still leads national series

THE Mansfield/Mt Buller Cycling Club BMX racer Hayden Fletcher had a tough weekend at Shepparton for the rounds five and six of the BMX Australia National series.

Suffering a stomach bug during the week, Fletcher was not feeling 100 percent Saturday morning, then with a nasty fall in practice, his attempt to hold on to the green series leader’s plate was looking a little shaky.

Come race time the adrenalin kicked in and the Howqua Inlet teen blasted his way through the motos and semi final to qualify number 1 into the final.

A great gate start and with a clear track in front of him, Fletcher took the lead and was never doubted to take his third win of the seven round series.

“Today was about keeping calm and not being overly confident coming into the round as series leader,” Fletcher said.

“Junior elite is a crazy class and we have so many good competitors.
