INDEPENDENT member for Indi, Cathy McGowan (MHR, Indi), remains on track to retain her seat as the representative for Indi at the upcoming federal election.
A new opinion poll shows that local support for Ms McGowan continues to hold fast – with 37.3 per cent of voters prepared to give her their first preference.
Liberal candidate, Sophie Mirabella, looking to re-enter parliament, is the second preference for Indi residents, securing 26.9 per cent of preferences.
The Australia Institute commissioned the poll, with 656 residents surveyed by ReachTel on March 10.
Ms McGowan shocked the political world when she wrested the seat of Indi from then sitting member, Mrs Mirabella, back in 2013.
Her vote tally was just 439 more than her Liberal counterpart.
