VICTORIA Police has confirmed there will be a 24-hour presence in the alpine areas this winter.
Benalla District Inspector Dan Trimble said on Monday that Mt Buller will have 24 hour response but could not confirm at this time whether police will be on the mountain or responding from Mansfield.
Insp Trimble said there are a limited number of police officers that need to be balanced and rostering had not been finalised.
“However, I can confirm that accommodation for officers as per normal has been booked on Mt Buller,” he said.
Eastern Region Assistant Commissioner Rick Nugent said as in previous years, police members will be stationed at all times of the day and night while snow falls on the mountains to respond to any incident that occurs.
Confirmation came last Friday after letters were sent to the Commissioner of Police Graham Ashton, Minister for Police Lisa Neville and Premier Daniel Andrews questioning reports that police would not be at ski resorts this season.
