MANSFIELD’S 15-year-old Hayley Wilson was one of 16 skateboarders from across Australia invited to take part in the first Australian Skateboarding Federation High Performance Olympic camp from April 28 to 30.
Not only were up and coming riders treated to lessons from Australian skating legend Renton Millar, but they also attended sessions with Sochi Olympians.
Other programs included ‘what it takes to be a successful athlete’, focusing on injury management, nutrition, strength and condition and how to manage social media.
Eight boarders were chosen each for the street and park disciplines and were selected from ASF rankings.
Wilson was one of four women invited in the street division.
The camp was funded by the Australian Olympic committee with skateboarding making its Olympic debut in 2020 in Tokyo.
Wilson is aiming to make the Australian Olympic team to compete in women’s street skating in 2020 and the series of camps are designed to develop the skaters to achieve at the next level and beyond
