CORCORAN Parker kicked off the Southern Weaner Sales season for 2018, yarding almost 5000 head across two weeks.

It is the first time the agents have gone solo for the event, opening the season at the NVLX Exchange at Barnawartha on January 3 with the Feature Premier Angus Weaner Sale.

Of the 2700 head yarded, almost half came from the Mansfield district – including around 1500 head from the Manning family, Davilak Pastoral.

Sired by Glendaloch bulls, the majority of the Davilak offering sat in the 310 – 400kg weight range, and the EU accredited steers sold to $1235 – and earnt the Mannings the $500 Rural Bank Best Presented Pen.

Weights ran heavier than previous years, and as a result prices were higher, keeping away some of the background and feeder buyers.

L Nankervis, Laceby, sold the sale top – getting $1255 for her 410kg 2017 autumn steers.
