A PLANNING application for stone extraction on a Buttercup Road property was denied by Mansfield Shire councillors last week.
The owner/applicant of 401 Buttercup Road applied to council for a retrospective planning permit to allow operations for a five-day a week, 10-year rock extraction licence, with operations from 7am to 4:30pm across multiple sites on his 400 acre property.
The owner had already been excavating rock without a permit on the escarpment of his property and trucking it into Melbourne for sale.
Concerned local residents contacted Mansfield Council in March 2016, which put a temporary stop to the operation.
At last week’s meeting council’s acting manager for planning, Dawn Bray, recommended councillors pass the application, subject to 49 conditions attached to the permit.
None of the councillors, however, moved a motion in support of the recommendation.
