Speedsters kept police busy

MANSFIELD Highway Patrol and general duties officers were kept extremely busy over the Easter four day Operation Nexus period.

Acting Sergeant Scott Woodstock said traffic was horrendous – both coming into and again leaving Mansfield – and patrol officers were kept on their toes with accidents.

Police have also called for public assistance in locating a motorcyclist that was clocked at 158kmh on the Benalla-Mansfield Road on Easter Sunday.

Act Sgt Woodstock said the motorcyclist passed a police car – travelling in the opposite direction – at 158kmh but was later detected near Swanpool travelling at 212kmh and again a third time at a higher speed.

The motorcyclist failed to stop for police and was also observed crossing double white lines and overtaking other vehicles while in pursuit.
