Police warn locals to stay safe on the road

MANSFIELD motorists are being warned to take extra care on the roads with the ‘silly season’ now begun.

Sergeant Marty McLachlan of the Mansfield Highway Patrol said the next three months were the most dangerous on local roads – and advised drivers to be extra vigilant.

“We see deterioration in driver behaviour this time of the year associated with non-local traffic travelling to the snow fields,” Sgt McLachlan said.

“It happens every year, and obviously the high risk period is the three months of winter; we have a spike in collisions, a spike in impoundments and a spike in bad driver behaviour.”
