Residents to wear rubbish overcharge

MANAGING UNDERLYING FINANCIAL POSITION: General rates will now rise 13.94 per cent ( 11.44 above the cap) which equates to $1.2 million a year, which is offset by a 37 per cent reduction in the waste charge, also equal to $1.2 million a year.

DESPITE some opposition and concern from local residents, the Essential Services Commission (ESC) has approved Mansfield Shire council’s application for a variation to the 2.5 per cent rate cap.

“We are pleased with the result of our application to the ESC and the recognition that we are taking appropriate steps to manage our underlying financial position, achieve efficiencies and deliver value for money,” said Mansfield Shire mayor Harry Westendorp.

“We look forward to continuing to work with the community delivering services in the long-term interests of ratepayers and the community.”
