Flags raise at council for NAIDOC week

THE National Committee changed the date of this year’s NAIDOC week event from July to November, so last week the Gadhaba Local Aboriginal Network in partnership with the Mansfield Shire Council held a flag raising ceremony at the shire office.

While attendance numbers were limited due to current COVID related restrictions, the event was livestreamed.A week borne from a day of protest, NAIDOC Week each year is an opportunity for Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians to come together to celebrate not only Indigenous achievement but the history and rich culture.

“Our nation’s history and heritage begins with Aboriginal people and NAIDOC week gives us the opportunity to acknowledge and recognise this history together as one,” Mansfield Shire chief executive officer Kaylene Conrick said in her speech at the event.
