New COVID-19 case in Mansfield

MANSFIELD recorded its fourth COVID-19 case this week.

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHSS) confirmed on its website and COVID-19 count page on Tuesday that one person in Mansfield had tested positive to COVID-19.

As the responsible authority DHHS will now track and follow up with any persons who may have come in contact with this one case.

The latest case now brings Mansfield overall total number of COVID-19 cases during the current pandemic to four.

Three cases of COVID-19 were reported in March with three international travellers returning from overseas testing positive.

All three people have since fully recovered after spending time in self isolation and being treated.

While regional Victoria is still seeing relatively few cases, the pandemic continues to grow in metropolitan Melbourne and Mitchell Shire, where new restrictions were put in place as from 11.59am today (Wednesday).

A statement from DHHS stated:

“With growing coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Victoria, it’s critical we take further steps to help keep our communities safe.

From 11.59pm on Wednesday, July 22, changes in restrictions were introduced to help reduce the risk of the virus spreading.

The rest of Victoria will continue to follow restrictions that came into effect on Wednesday, 8 July 2020.”

Mansfield at this stage has not been placed under stricter restrictions.

Today DHHS reported Victoria has recorded 374 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 6289.

The overall total has increased by 347, after 27 cases were reclassified – largely due to duplication.

Within Victoria, 62 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 312 are under investigation.

Three cases of COVID-19 were reported earlier in the pandemic (March) with three international travellers returning from overseas testing positive.

All three people have since fully recovered after spending time in self isolation and being treated.

Details as they come to hand will be posted.
