Merrijig Motor Inn changes hands

THERE are some new faces at the Merrijig Motor Inn as Michael and Mandy Aistrope handed over the bustling motel, restaurant and store to Buller Ski Lifts (BSL) who acquired the business in November.

Gayle Nicolle is managing the venue, following several years with Buller Holidays, and was excited to work closely with the former owners on a smooth transition.

Michael and Mandy had previously run the business for the past 11 years and during that time made many changes and included a gin bar.

"The Merrijig Motor Inn is considered a local institution, and we are geared up for a busy summer season welcoming guests and groups and being a place for people to gather for good food and great company," said Gayle.

Chefs Ross O'Meara and Aaron Reid joined the existing team in the kitchen ensuring the restaurant continues to be a popular dining spot; locals are relieved to hear the legendary egg and bacon rolls are keeping their place on the breakfast menu.

"The Wednesday Parma night is staying and as we transition into warmer weather it will shift to the traditional summer BBQ night," said Gayle.

"The Motor Inn will continue to be a relaxed place to stop in for breakfast, lunch, dinner and drinks with a game of pool or a swim this summer.

"We're adding the option of hampers so guests can pre–order a selection of local wine, cheese and nibbles ready to enjoy out on the lawn, down by the river or while unwinding in their room."
